What's Your excuse, here's The Top 10 Excuses For NOT Achieving Music Business Success

 By

                                                            www.DIRTBEATS.com

Let me attack these excuses one by one.

1. I'm too young

There have been many young people who have made it in the music business. In fact most people get started when they are young. Currently, there are young people who top the music charts like Justin Bieber. Michael Jackson started when he was 5 years old. Destiny's Child found success when they were teenagers and look at there members now. Who hasn't heard of Beyonce? If you are young, I say you probably have a better shot at being successful than someone in their 70's. We'll also dispel the "old age" excuse in #2.

2. I'm too old

I remember one of my friends stating to me that if he was not successful by the age of 30 in the music business, then he would quit altogether. Well, the music business is very strange and instead of focusing on making great music and being a great entertainer, my friend focused on his age. Al Jarreau was well past 30 when he became successful. Most recently Susan Boyle has become an international success, not because of her age and her looks but because she has talent.

3. I do not have enough money

I'm sure glad I got over this excuse early. If you do not have any money then you should find someone to invest in your music career or learn how to advance your career without using too much money. There are all kinds of guerrilla marketing techniques that aspiring artists can use to further their careers. Go to the library and get a book on guerrilla marketing and you see what I mean. Better yet, Google it!

4. I do not have enough contacts

Once again let's shoot this excuse down for good. We are in the information age. There are networking sites like MySpace, Facebook, Twitter and many others online that will allow you to make all the contacts you need. In the offline world, you can go to music industry conventions to learn about the music business and build lasting relationships. I can't even remember all the contacts I've build over the years but I will never say I don't have enough contacts.

5. I don't know what to do

This is another tired excuse. There are plenty of books in the public library on everything from how to make a demo to how to book your own shows and make money. If you really don't know what to do, find a mentor and follow their path. Even if you don't personally know them, success leaves clues. Figure out what they did and duplicate it.

6. I just don't have the look

Of course there are plenty of gorgeous artists in the entertainment industry but if you don't think you have "the look", then you probably need to quit anyway. I'm serious. There have been some really blockbuster successes that were not "lookers". Besides, beauty is in the eye of the beholder which means different people are attracted to different things. This is more of a self-esteem issue and you should probably work on boosting your self-esteem first if you plan on being in the music business. Sometimes people can be mean and if you have thin skin or are easily offended, this business is NOT for you.

7. Other people are holding me back

Really? Unless you are incarcerated or someone is holding you against your will, no one can really keep you from achieving your music goals. You need to look at the "man in the mirror" and figure out what you need to do to get going with your plan.

You do have a plan don't you?

There can be negative people in your life but if that is the case then if you are an adult, you can remove yourself from their negativity. So many artists hear the words, "I don't think you can make it in the music industry." If someone is telling you that, you need to get as far away from them as possible because you'll begin to doubt yourself and your talent.

8. I don't live in the right city

Thirty years ago this might have been true but once again the Internet shoots this excuse right in the heart. There used to be a time where you had to live in New York City, Los Angeles, or Nashville to make it in the music business. The Internet has leveled the playing field so that no matter where you live, you can make money and get discovered if that is you goal.

9. I have too many other obligations (kids, marriage, job, etc.)

I actually struggled with this one for a while. I put my music dreams on hold to take care of my family and that was a very noble and responsible thing to do. However, I never stopped writing and moving forward with my goals. I learned how to make beats and I learned how to market myself on the Internet as I've said to you so many times before in this article.

I did not make excuses for what I was doing. I just need to find a different way of achieving my goals and there is absolutely nothing wrong with this approach. Even if you have to spend 30 minutes a day doing something toward making you music dreams come true, that's better than doing nothing at all.

10. I'm not getting enough exposure

I can lump this excuse in with some of the others above but here is a different viewpoint on exposure. Internet, Internet, Internet! All you need are some basic pieces of equipment and you're on your way to getting massive exposure. You first need to take a course in guerrilla marketing so you can learn how to market yourself with little to no money.

I would also suggest getting a digital camera and/or a camera that records video. You can post pictures and videos all over the Internet for your fans to see. Need to do a live show? Have someone record you performing live and post it on the Internet on sites like YouTube. Posting on a site is not enough though. You need to learn how to bring traffic to your postings and that is why I recommend learning Internet marketing.

People are making a killing on the Internet and it doesn't take millions of people or millions of sales to make you successful.

I'm sure there are more excuses than I've listed here but I do believe these are the ones I've heard the most. If you are using any of these excuses above, I suggest you take a good look at yourself and actually figure out if this business is for you.

                                                              www.100RadioLive.com

In closing, I would like to leave you with a quote. I'm not sure who the author is but when you start making excuses, always remember this:

Excuses are the tools of incompetence. Those who use them build monuments of nothingness that shall not amount to anything. Therefore, there are no excuses

Yes, Marketing Your Music Is Key To Your Success In The Music Business

By

What's So Different About the Music Business?

The music business isn't very different from the retail stores you buy your gear from. The minute you open your mind to this reality... the easier it's going to be for you to market your music more effectively.

So why is that? What is it that keeps your local music store operational for 20 years or more? What are they doing to succeed that you're not? More importantly... how can you start applying some of their success techniques to your music business?

Let's face it. The music business is probably one of the most difficult industry's to find any kind of success in. I mean, you've got to gig and travel and then there's your online presence with social networking and updating your website regularly. So when do you have time to think about marketing?

Therein lies the problem.

Most musicians that I consult with, simply aren't thinking about marketing their music at all. Can you believe it? Do you think the music store in town would survive without some type of marketing system in place? I think not... and if you're thinking that all those packages you sent out to everyone on that list or that bible book you just bought is going to score you some new business... guess again.

The reality is that in order for you to succeed in this business you need to be out in the "real world" building a loyal following of new fans. At the same time, you need to be in touch with your existing fan base on a regular basis to ensure they're happy with you. Yes... happy with you.

The Build It and They Will Come Approach Doesn't Work

If you're like most bands and musicians nowadays, you're assuming that the fans who came out to your gig last week are naturally going to show up to your next gig just because you email blast them. You did get their email address the last time they came out to your show right?

It's unfortunate, but this is the mentality that a lot of bands are walking around with and it's this same apathetic approach to dealing with your fans (customers) that's losing you a ton of money. So why do I say that?

Be a Giver. Your Music Fans Love It When You Share

Well let's look at it like this... let's say that rockin' band you went out to see last week offered you a freebie just because you showed up to see them play. Maybe they gave you a digital card for a few free song downloads or heck, maybe they splurged a little and handed you a free CD when you gave them your email address.

And let's say that a few days after their show, they sent you an email telling you how great they thought you were for showing up to their gig and that as a thank you, they were offering you insiders access to the VIP section of their band website where you could log in and see some of their cool videos they shot as they recorded their last album.

                                                                 www.DIRTBEATS.com

Now if that isn't cool enough... what if they offered you a signed poster and their latest album free, if you came out to their next gig... but this time you brought a friend with you?

Wow! That's customer service. And that's follow up at it's best!

Sure you might lose a little money by giving away some of your music, and the cost of CD's isn't something to scoff at nowadays, but what if that fan thought you were so cool, they brought 3 new fans instead of just the one. What would that mean to your FUTURE sales?

This is how the retail music stores do it. They entice you back to their store with seminars, music clinics, coupons and cool stuff that you're into. They build a long-term relationship with you. This is what you need to start thinking about when you communicate with your fans. This is where the real money comes from. The relationship.

Loyalty Pays The Bills

Loyal fans who love you so much they rave about all the cool stuff you do for them and bring their friends out with them to see you. And when they do... don't drop the ball. Start the process all over again with your new fan and watch your music business grow in some big ways.

When you get these techniques down into a system, you'll be on your way to being a music marketing machine but if this isn't enough for you and you want even more ideas on how you can outshine most of today's indie musicians, head on over to Mass Music Marketing [http://www.massmusicmarketing.com] and hear it from over 8 music business experts as they tell it like it is and leave no marketing stones unturned. It's like being a fly on the wall as they reveal their closely guarded secrets on what they, as music industry insiders, think it takes to succeed in today's new music business.

Air Jordan Shoes - What do they really Symbolize ?

http://100AJLive.com

                                                          http://100AJLive.com

Even if you have been living in a cave, you would have heard of Michael Jordan. Jordan is one of the most popular basketball players to play in the NBA. The NBA is a professional basketball competition that is watched by millions of people all over the world. To understand why Air Jordan shoes have such a huge impact on fans, you have to first understand a little about Michael Jordan.

Jordan plays the position of the shooting guard. Usually, he has 3 numbers that he wears on his jersey during competitions - 23, 45 and 9. The most well known number is, of course, number 23. So if you see anyone walking down the street with a number 23 at the back, that's a Jordan fan.

As a shooting guard, Jordan was unbeatable. In the 1990-91 season, Jordan helped the Bulls to finish first in the division - something that hasn't happened for the past 16 years. At the Eastern Conference Finals, the Detroit Pistons (another great team to watch) was waiting for them. By then, everyone knew what Jordan could do. So they started giving him a lot of attention. They had to double and triple team him to try and prevent him from scoring.

Fortunately, Jordan was smart enough to change strategy and resorted to passing. The Bulls went on the win the game.

Jordan was well known for his scoring ability. He had speed and great jumping ability. He took part in numerous slam dunk competitions when he was younger. In the beginning, he only managed to win as the first runner up. But even then, the fans were rooting for him. His greatest dunking feat came in the form of taking off from the free throw line. He would start his run from one end of the court. With a few great strides, he covered the length of the court and he would take off on the free throw line. Fans would then see him floating towards the basket and everyone would cheer wildly when the ball went straight into the basket. It was a remarkable demonstrable of Jordan's jumping ability.

That earned him the reputation of Air Jordan. Everyone started calling him Air Jordan because he could literally float on air when performing his dunks. During competitive games, his competitors find it hard to stop him because of his great athletic ability.

Jordan then went on to start his own brand of basketball shoes - the Air Jordan shoes. These shoes come in many different colors and designs. It is currently being marketed by Nike, a major brand in the sports industry.

Many fans around the world started to wear Air Jordan shoes in basketball games. As a lot of research had gone into the shoes, the pricing was expensive when the shoes came into the market. However, with widespread adoption of the shoes and improved technologies, the pricing has come down a lot in recent years. Today, you can purchase a pair of retro Air Jordan shoes for less than a hundred USD.

The Shoe that SAVED the Air Jordan Brand #hiphopCSS

By

 http://100AJLive.com

The year was 1987. Michael Jordan was about to become the greatest basketball player to ever play the game. He was also about to kill the basketball dynasty that Nike would eventually create. That's right. His Airness was literally days away from opting out of the contract he had with Nike and signing on with another sneaker powerhouse, Adidas. The short lived era of Air Jordan basketball shoes and perhaps the best basketball shoes available to mankind was seemingly coming to an end.

The source of Michael's discontent? It was simple. He just didn't like the look or feel of the Air Jordan II. Didn't care for the shoe is putting it mildly. He hated it. So much so that signing with Adidas was his only option. He was closer to signing with Adidas than most people realize. Oh, the horror that would have been! The legendary line of Nike shoes for basketball that is known as the Air Jordans would not exist today. Before that happened, a soon to be legend in his own right, Tinker Hatfield, changed the fate of basketball mankind.

Thank God for Tinker! Mr. Hatfield was the shoe designer that stepped in and designed the Jordan III. Tinker Hatfield, it can be said, is the man that made the Air Jordan shoe legendary. The same shoe that kept Michael Jordan under contract with Nike. The shoe that would ultimately save the Jordan basketball shoe and elevate it to legendary status. A status that is likely unattainable by any other basketball shoe of our lifetime. A shoe that is the most sought after basketball sneaker of basketball players and casual fans alike.

So what possibly could a basketball sneaker have that would change the shoe game so abruptly and began a lifelong legacy? Two words: Elephant Print. All sneakerheads and even most of the general shoe buying public are aware of what this design is. The grey based trim with black accents that adorns the uppers of numerous Jordan shoes. It was and is a one of a kind design that will be impossible to duplicate.

 http://100AJLive.com

The Jordan Retro III has made a return to the sneaker world in a big way in 2011. A total of 5 different colorways including the Doernbecher edition will be released by the end of the year. The most recently released colorway to drop was titled "True Blue". And indeed it was true to its origins. The quality, specs, and even packaging was identical to the original Air Jordan III of 1988. There are still 2 colorways of this magnificent sneaker to drop this year. Make plans now to purchase one, if not the best, Jordan Retros ever made. These are not Nike shoes for basketball we are talking about. These are Jordan Retros. They are going to sell fast.

Visit me at: [http://www.epicsignaturesneakers.com].

I have been an avid sneakerhead for 40 years. From running shoes to my true passion, basketball shoes, I own more pairs of shoes than I can count. Nike, Adidas, Under Armour, and Reebok are dropping some pretty sick kicks right now. If you are like a sneakerhead like me, you truly can't wait for tomorrow when news of a new sneaker drop will be announced.
